PANIC ROOM Satellite [Release date 25 January 2010] (Firefly Music 002)

'Satellite', the stunning new album from UK rock band Panic Room, looks set to propel them into another league. The award-winning band have returned from their live UK touring with a second album that is tighter, brighter, louder and even more powerful than the first. Taking the same creative freedom that they explored in their debut, ‘Visionary Position', Panic Room have fused their signature sound with an even higher level of energy and raw power. PARADE The Fabric [Release date 25 January 2010] (NAUTCD004)

Parade is the band founded by guitarist Chris Johnson. Chris has previously worked with Fish and Mostly Autumn and was a featured writer on the Mostly Autumn album Heart Full Of Sky from 2007 contributing the songs Silver Glass and Blue Light. More recently Chris has been a member of the Fish live band who have recently finished an extended bout of touring.

Chris formed the band Parade to explore the darker side of his song writing. Some of the songs were originally earmarked for Mostly Autumn although they find a home amongst other songs of a similar dark style on the Parade's debut album The Fabric.

Joining Chris in Parade is Fish band mate Gavin Griffiths (Drums), Anne Marie Helder from Panic Room also contributes vocals and keyboards and the line up is completed by guitarist Simon Snaize and bassist Patrick Berry. Other musicians contributing performances to The Fabric include Bryan Josh, Olivia Sparnenn and Heather Findlay from Mostly Autumn. The album began life in earnest following the end of the Fish tour in early 2009 and was completed relatively quickly some months later. The eleven songs on the album all bear a distinctive experimental sound although a commercial rock streak also permeates the tracks. Which include Come Alive, Start Again, High Life, The Dogs, All That I Wanted and Facing Down.

Due to the members of the band having high profile associations with the likes of Fish, Mostly Autumn and The Panic Room this album will attract a wide audience from the related fan bases and the prog

SONJA KRISTINA Harmonics Of Love [Release date 11 January 2010] (Market Square MSMCD151)

Post her genre-defining solo release 'Songs From The Acid Folk' (MSMCD109), former Curved Air vocalist and songwriter Sonja Kristina moved on to 'astro folk' with 1994's 'Harmonics of Love', an album that bridges her progressive rock and acid folk past with the electronic experimentalism that was to emerge in the noughties via a giddy 'new age' rush of melodic and ambient music connecting acousticity to studio effects and natural sounds sampled from locations as disparate as the Amazon rain forest and that year's Glastonbury Festival.

Bonus tracks for this enhanced reissue take in later work including a Motorhead cover (!) and output from her current project MASK.

In her notes, Sonja writes:

"These songs of desire, heartache, forgiveness and fellowship were recorded in the afterglow of happy times travelling with my wild and willful players between 1989 and 1997, playing intimate venues, festivals and spiritual retreats in the UK. My band at the time, Cloud Ten made music experimental and improvised around the pulse and lilt of my words and melodies.  During the second "summer of love' we played acoustic trance music 'our sonic vision of those times.'

ELEANOR McEVOY Singled Out

A fifteen-track overview of the singles output of the acclaimed Irish singer-songwriter kicks off with the exuberant and powerful 'Oh Uganda' (Eleanor's impression of the country which she visited supporting an Oxfam Ireland programme there), and also includes the radio hits 'Days Roll By', 'Non Smoking Single Female' and 'Old, New, Borrowed and Blue'.

MAGGIE REILLY Looking Back, Moving Forward (Red Berry RB0006)

Looking Back Moving Forward is the latest album from Maggie and the follow up to the 2006 album Rowan. The album contains re recordings of some of the key songs in Maggie's career alongside new recordings.

Once again Maggie has collaborated with her former Cado Belle keyboardist Stuart MacKillop making this the ninth album they have worked on together since that first Cado Belle album in the seventies.

Tracks include, It's A Lovely Day, To France, Stone's Throw From Nowhere, Moonlight Shadow, Family Man, Everytime We Touch and True Colours.

THE SILKIE You've Got To Hide Your Love Away [Release date: 31 January 2010] HUX111

The Silkie are best remembered for their hit cover of the Beatles song 'You've Got To Hide Your Love Away', which made the U.S. top ten in 1965. The Silkie gave the song a somewhat more pop-folk treatment, complete with male-female harmonies, its prospects were boosted by a Lennon-McCartney production credit. The Beatle connection didn't end there, as they were also managed by Brian Epstein.

The Silkie was a quartet of Hull University students: Mike Ramsden (guitar & vocals), Sylvia Tatler (vocals), Ivor Aylesbury (guitar & vocals) and Kevin Cunningham (bass),

Three of the Beatles were involved in the Silkie's cover version of 'You've Got to Hide Your Love Away'. Paul McCartney contributed vocals and guitar, George Harrison added percussion via guitar taps and tambourine, and John Lennon did most of the producing, although McCartney is sometimes credited as co-producer with Lennon.

As Mike Ramsden later reminisced: 'It was really Paul's arrangement of John's song. The bit at the beginning on guitar is Paul. George Harrison turned up, tapping on the back of the guitar and going "sssh". John was with an engineer in the control room, producing the record. We had six hours with three Beatles and Jane Asher, who was opening the beer. John was so chuffed that he rang Brian Epstein and said, "Listen, Brian, we've just made a No.1". He played the song over the phone and Brian said "Well done"'.

This CD reissue of The Silkie's album also includes their singles as bonus tracks. The accompanying booklet features extensive liner notes, photographs and full recording details.

MICHAEL CHAPMAN And Then, There Were Three [Release date 22 March 2010] (Market Square MSMCD151)

Virtuoso guitarist and critically-acclaimed songwriter, championed by John Peel and later Charles Shaar Murray, Michael Chapman recorded a quartet of classic LPs for EMI's progressive Harvest label during the 1970s. Chapman's extensive touring fast won him a passionate following, evidenced on this until-now unreleased live set.

Recorded at Nottingham's Playhouse Theatre on July 23rd 1977 by Chapman and a power house rhythm section in Lindisfarne bassist Rod Clements and former John Mayall drummer Keef Hartley, it includes some of his best-loved songs in “And There Were Three” - a jocular reference to Chapman's ever-shrinking band, described nonetheless by notes writer Marc Higgins as ‘a beast with three heads'.

Three lads from South Wales are set to widen a growing audience with the release of their third album, Cassandra.

They've been playing music together since 2002 and their latest album shows progress in leaps and bounds.

Guitarist Nick James says that the lead track on the album expands the myth of Cassandra who in Greek mythology was given the gift of prophecy but not of being believed. How could we apply that to the modern world, if at all?

NEIL ARDLEY's NEW JAZZ ORCHESTRA Camden 70 (DUSKCD105)

Between the NJO's first album, Western Reunion (Decca, 1965) and second, Le Dejeuner sur l'Herbe (Verve, 1968), Neil Ardley's writing had matured to a point where it was showing serious signs of outgrowing even the highly flexible instrument that the orchestra had become. Under his guidance, the band was now also playing new music by a whole crop of young composers - Mike Taylor, Michael Garrick, Howard Riley and Michael Gibbs among them.

The line-up on this session was substantially the one that had recorded Dejeuner, although there were a few significant absentees including Ian Carr, who was by now touring the world with his pioneering jazz-rock band, Nucleus.

The programme that night was essentially the orchestra's current concert set and drew heavily on Le Dejeuner sur l‘Herbe, which was still current and selling well. Of the eight numbers on the album, seven are included here (tracks 5 to 11).

Camden '70 measures the extraordinary capabilities of a talent pool the like of which was not to be seen again in a jazz orchestra. This release marks the recording's debut and, together with notes from Dave Gelly and sound engineer Martin Mitchell (on the master tapes restoration) and period images, makes for a truly exciting addition to the jazz and jazz rock aficionado's collection.

NEIL ARDLEY Kaleidoscope of Rainbows (DUSKCD102)

'Kaleidoscope Of Rainbows’ (1976) completed a trilogy of albums and was composed between 1973 and 1975 as a seven-part work for jazz orchestra and performed by an augmented version of Ian Carr's band Nucleus.

Neil Ardley had been commissioned in 1974 by the London Borough of Camden to write a new work to mark the first major jazz festival in the UK for many years. It was held at the Roundhouse in London in October of that year. He had decided to extend the ideas worked out in the previous two albums to complete the trilogy.

‘Kaleidoscope of Rainbows’ toured England the following year under the auspices of the Contemporary Music Network of the Arts Council and became its most successful attraction. A final concert before a packed house at the Royal Festival Hall was so well received that Gull Records decided to record and release Neil’s creation.

This Dusk Fire recording was 24 Bit 96 k/Hz digitally-remastered by Miles Showell at Metropolis Mastering, London, December 2004, using original master tapes.

This is a real piece of history. The short lived "Sacrifice" stage show that caused such an outcry in the UK, was recorded for German television in 1970 and was in FULL - complete with all the chants, dances and sacrifice of the Naked girl.

The soundtrack to the DVD has been lifted off to provide a CD and DVD package.
