Patrick Moraz

Swiss born Patrick Moraz is probably best known in rock music circles as the man who played with two of the world’s biggest rock bands firstly with Yes recording the album Relayer and touring extensively with the band between 1974 and 1976.

Following this stint with Yes Patrick would go on to join another legendary band the Moody Blues. Patrick stayed with the band between the years 1978 and 1991 touring the world extensively and contributing to a number of successful albums.

Patrick has also been a member of the progressive rock band Mainhorse forming the band with bassist Jean Ristori in 1969 and releasing one self titled album in 1970.

Following that his next port of call would be Refugee where he joined forces with two former members of the Nice. This band also released one critically acclaimed self titled album before Patrick left to join Yes.

Patrick Moraz began his solo career in earnest in 1976 with the release of The Story of I. Since then he has released a number of albums covering a number of different musical styles. In 2006 Patrick embarked on re vamp of his back catalogue re mastering and reissuing the entire back catalogue over a period of two years,

Patrick’s latest album is entitled Change of Space and it is his first album for a number of years. Recorded in America over the last two years the album is a return to Patrick’s progressive roots and as such will be highly anticipated by his large and dedicated following.

The reissue campaign has renewed interest in the work of this special artist and as such demand for this new album particularly in the progressive genre bodes well.

Overall this is superior and accessible jazz fusion with touches of early eighties Santana. As such, for some ears this might all seem a little dated but Moraz's musicality keeps things interesting. ***½
