Formed in 1968 Nazareth (Dan McCafferty (vocals), Manny Charlton (guitar), Pete Agnew (bass) and Darrell Sweet (drums))took their third album 'Razamanaz' (1973) into the album charts with two UK Top 10 singles in "Broken Down Angel" and "Bad Bad Boy". With producer Roger Glover (Deep Purple) the band concentrated on melodic hard rock and their version of the Joni Mitchell song 'This Flight Tonight' gave the group another major hit single. Manny Charlton-produced 'Hair Of The Dog' (1975) firmly established the band as a major international attraction. The band went through several line-up changes in the late seventies including the addition of SAHB guitarist Zal Cleminson and Jeff Skunk Baxter, late of Steely Dan and the Doobie Brothers, produced 'Malice In Wonderland' (1980). Nazareth suspended their career during the late '80s, leaving McCafferty free to pursue solo ambitions, although he had released a solo album in 1975. A comeback album in 1992 'No Jive' featured Billy Rankin. |
