Australian guitarist Kevin Peek has played on
many recordings over the years in his capacity as a session guitarist. Over
the years Kevin has recorded with the likes of Cliff Richard, Leo Sayer,
Mary Hopkin, Manfred Mann, Kiki Dee and Shirley Bassey among others.
More famously Kevin formed the classical/rock fusion band Sky alongside John
Williams and Herbie Flowers experiencing massive commercial success the
world over.
Life and Other Games was Kevin’s third solo album originally released in
1982 while Kevin was still a member of Sky. The album includes performances
from fellow session musicians Alan Tarney and Trevor Spencer who worked
alongside Kevin Peek on many sessions including those for Cliff Richard and
Leo Sayer.
Awakening was Kevin Peek’s second solo album and was recorded whilst still a
member of Sky and released in late 1981. Although his second solo album it
wads the first album to receive a wide distribution and due to his
membership of Sky this album took on a higher profile.

For Those We Left Behind
This solo debut
released in 1981 has stood the test of time. Peek is less constrained than
in Sky and the tunes are very listenable, either upbeat like the title
track, 'Manitou' and 'Infinite Dreams', or verging on jazz rock fusion
like 'Sidewinder'.
The longer 'Starship Suite' with vocals from co-producer David Reilly
features Peek's melodic Hackett-esque guitar figures and is perhaps
closest to some of the longer Sky workouts.
Sadly, Peek appears to be a mere footnote on one of the more interesting
musical fusions of the late seventies with no apparent website or Wiki
entry. 'Awakening' might be just what is needed in more senses than one.
