Joe Cocker (born in Sheffield, 1944) started his musical career in the pubs of Sheffield. His first band 'The Avengers' did not achieve great success although they did open for the Rolling Stones at Sheffield City Hall, which was received very well. It was here that his fan base started to grow.
His next band 'Joe Cocker Big Blues' built up a
large following with the release of a cover of The Beatles 'I'll Cry
Instead' - and even ventured to France where they played on American air
bases. This was very popular and the Americans seemed to love Joe - however
when he returned to England, luck ran out and 'Joe Cocker Big Blues'
collapsed. |
