Billy Currie's frenzied violin playing and brilliant keyboard skills were an integral part of the overall sound of 'Ultravox', of which he was a founder member. Throughout the '80's Ultravox enjoyed a string of million selling records beginning with 'Vienna' which was written by Billy. Billy formed Visage with Midge Ure and Steve Strange and this band too enjoyed huge success selling over two million albums along with the international hit single 'Fade To Grey. 'Stand Up And Walk' was Billy's second solo album and followed 'Transportation' . In this second album Billy makes more use of the natural sounds of the violin, viola and the acoustic grand piano. In his own words he describes the sound as having developed a new more relaxed look at time, spacing and communication of feelings. Billy's skills as a viola and violin player come to the fore in most of thetracks but in 'Ukraine' he is reunited with his Ultravox colleagues, Warren Cann and Chris Cross. This track was intended for an Unltravox album but was not used. |
